The EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY is an active participant in the Erasmus+ programme with an expanding base of partner institutions. The programme provides financially aided student mobility within and outside of THE European Union.

EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY ERASMUS+ POLICY STATEMENT

The European University Skopje has been an active participant in the Erasmus+ programme with

successful projects in several key actions – KA103, KA107 and KA203, that brought many benefits to the

students, staff and overall development and internationalization of our institution.

So far, we have created a network of partner institutions that became our close collaborators which is a

very significant aspect of fulfilling our long-term strategy in improving international presence and

visibility, general competitiveness, educational activities, research work, and thus the innovative

potential of the university. EU Skopje established cooperation with 30+ HEI’s from more than 15 both

programme and partner countries.

Regarding the foregoing, we plan to continue with these activities in the future because international

cooperation and projects are an integral part of a modern university, through which it develops and

strengthens its role in the environment in which it operates. Our participation in the following period is

planned in several areas:

KA1 – Learning through individual mobility, which creates opportunities for individuals to improve their

overall study/working skills and increase general cultural awareness. The mobility provides new

experiences and knowledge acquired in an international environment, and it also serves as a starting

point for prospects and collaboration.

KA 2 – Cooperation for innovation and exchange of good practices

Through the Capacity Building Program in Higher Education, the European University of Skopje will

provide transfer of best practices as well as modernization of higher education with the development of

innovative study programs, management improvement and achieving various types of interaction

between higher education and society in general.

Capacity building in the field of youth, ie creating strategic partnerships with organizations in the field of

education, training and youth, in order to cooperate for modernization of institutions, exchange of

experiences, knowledge and innovative practice.

Development of knowledge alliances through transnational projects and cooperation with organizations

from different sectors in order to develop new approaches in teaching and learning, stimulating

entrepreneurship among students and enabling knowledge transfer through exchange programs.

Jean Monnet activities aimed at promoting the quality of teaching, organizing courses, research,

conferences, as well as publications in the field of EU studies at local, central and international level.

We plan to implement these activities into practice by expanding our partner base of HEI’s and improve

the level of involvement of students and academic staff into the project activities, thus contributing to the

achievement of the key Erasmus + goals and principles.

The international activities of the University for this year were influenced by the outbreak of the Covid-19

pandemic, due to the travel restrictions between countries. We have managed to realize only several

incoming and outgoing mobilities. We hope that everything will get back to normal soon and we can

proceed with providing the needed support for realization of the mobilities of students and staff. Our

main goal is to continue and improve the implementation of the Erasmus + mobilities and other program

activities in the future.

Strategy, objectives and impact

The European University main strategy is to become a modern international university in every aspect of

its operation, and to maintain higher education standards compatible with the reform processes of the

developed countries in the world. We are a private university with 20 years of experience in the higher

educational field, harmonized with the European Education Area and the Bologna Process. The

European University offers a variety of courses in Macedonian/English language – undergraduate

(Bachelor) and postgraduate (Master) studies in several scientific areas ranging from dental medicine,

art & design, criminalistics and security, economics, and software engineering. Our student base

consists both of domestic and international students from every part of the world (Turkey, Jordan, Syria,

Pakistan, Iraq, Bulgaria, Serbia, Canada, G.Britain…). We are in the centre of Skopje, the capital of

N.Macedonia, a landlocked country in south-east Europe, rich with tradition, natural landmarks and

cultural diversity.

With our participation in the Erasmus+ programme we would like to achieve international connections

that provide positive learning experiences and career perspectives for our students, institutional

development, and excellence. The participation will fit in our overall strategy for internationalisation –

expanding and developing academic, scientific, and cultural relations with universities and other

organisations from abroad. The experiences that we share will improve our management structure and

decision-making processes. Also, the organisational support is of great significance in the process of

modernisation and digitalization of our university.

The impact on our institution will be significant in terms of greater involvement in international academic

activities, collaborations with universities, exchange of staff and experience in organizing educational

and scientific work. Our objective is to become a modern international university and the effect of

participating in the Erasmus+ is invaluable to us in terms of improving and implementing new methods

in scientific, research and practical work through sharing experience, joint work and joint projects.

Also, we are focused on attracting students from every part of the world, and the Erasmus+ programme

gives them the opportunity to be mobile. We want to introduce modern courses that are globally relevant

and will have impact on development of our educational system in our country. We already had a project

with several partners in the Еrasmus+ Programme, KA 203 called CIRCECO – “ONLINE MASTER

PROGRAMME FOR CIRCULAR ECONOMY” – first study programme of its kind in our country.

The European University strives to achieve greater involvement in cooperation projects and create a

future global workforce that is adaptable in any environment and setting. The steps for realizing these

goals will be achievable through the means and mechanisms of the Erasmus+ programme in a

timetable that the University will develop in the following period.

Indicators

Based on the previous experience, in the following ECHE period (2021-2027) we set a target for

approximately outgoing/incoming 30-40 student/staff mobilities per year while maintaining good quality

of project implementation, support mechanisms for the participants and increased involvement in

cooperation projects that are sustainable and have long-term impact.
